Be happy

How important is it to get B vitamins in the body?
Well one you should be sure that the B Vitamin you are taking has all of the 8 Essential Vitamins.  You can throw your metabolism off by taking an isolated B Vitamin or ones that are out of balance.
A true B vitamin contains:
  • B6
  • B12
  • Niacin
  • Folic Acid
  • Biotin
  • Thiamin
  • Riboflavin
  • Panthothenic Acid
Did you know that if a person is deficient in B Vitamins the following occurs;
  • Depressed
  • Nervous
  • Irritable
  • Tired
  • Anemic
  • Crave Sweets
  • Insomnia
  • High Cholesterol levels
  • Abnormal heart action
  • Constipation
B vitamins help with:
  • Alleviate PMS and Menopausal symptoms.
  • Fatigue
  • Skin Disorders,
  • Cracks at the corner of the mouth and cuticles
  • Ridges in nails
  • Anemia
  • Tender Gums
  • Hair Loss
  • Constipation
  • Burning Feet
  • Burning and Dry eyes
  • Digestive Tract
  • Skin
  • Mouth
  • Tongue
  • Eyes
  • Nerves
  • Arteries
  • Liver
  • Folic Acid decreases the risk in pregnancy of neurotube defects in the baby.
Sugar, alcohol, caffeine and stress all destroy B vitamins and as a result increase stress.
Ideally taking (Shaklee's) 2 B Complex every 3 hours (max 6 daily) will give the body enough Bs to keep the body calm and in balance.  Until the body is in balance, you don't want to take the last 2 just before bed as it gives the body energy and can keep one up at night.
So really B Vitamins are THE HAPPY VITAMIN!

You put the appropriate fuel into your car, right?  If yes, then is there any reason why you wouldn't put exceptional fuel into your body?  After all, our life expectancy is much longer that a car's "life".

Vitamin D, girls, and stress fractures

This information is a portion from a study investigating the effects of vitamin D intake and the occurrence of stress fractures during a 7 year follow-up period. (K.R. Sonneville, Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, DOI: 1001/archpediatrics.2012.5, 2012).

Girls with a vitamin D intake of 107 iu daily were 50% more likely to suffer from stress fractures than girls with an intake of 663 iu daily - and this difference was most significant for girls who were participating in at least 1 hour per day of  high impact sports.

Many people think the role of vitamin D is mainly for preventing osteoporosis in the elderly.  However it is for everyone in supporting bone health and this study reminds us of just that.

It's about prevention.  Just like you maintain your vehicle, you need to maintain your health.

If you are not sure how much vitamin D is the right amount for you, email me at marybeth@mamabearproductions.net and we can work together to get you the right amount of vitamin D.

Not all vitamin D is created equally. Go here for a high quality vitamin D.

The Soy Myth

Thank you Dr. Brouse for this insightful information.

Henry Ford made plastics from soybeans.  Soy oil will oxidate and will turn into a plastic (when baking at a high temperature).

Soy is a vulnerable product.

But the protein from soy is a controversy.

Vegetarian Times had an article telling of the damaging effects of the procesing of soy has done to vegetarian lifestyle.  Since we've identified healthy soy, and a billion people in Asia consumes on a daily basis and have for several thousand years and they use it in a form that is safe and effective, which typically is in a raw form.

Soy can be modified in a process called Textured Modified protein and PVP is a process where they take soy beans, cook them at a high temperature, then grind them up.

By performing the PVP process, all beneficial properties of the soy bean are eliminated and our bodies cannot digest the soy.

Dr. Shaklee, instead of using the high temperature heat process, began experimenting with Cold Water Extraction. Shaklee Soy Protein has active urea enzymes present.  Many soy proteins DO NOT have urea enzymes due to processing the soy at high temperatures.  This is a key factor in realizing that the soy protein HAS NOT been damaged by processing the product.  Shaklee protein has and does not go under oxidative process.

Cold water isolate wash, specific to Shaklee, the anti-growth factor and anti thyroid factor is removed without damaging the protein itself.  Preserve the quality of the protein.

Every vegetable we eat from the garden and the orchard, contains phytoestrogens.  Nearly all the foods we eat are "female" in the plant kingdom.  Loaded with thousands of different phytoestrogens.

Veggie burgers, Silk Milk, baco bits  have altered proteins  DO NOT USE much of these products.

Here's my personal testimony.  I have been using Shaklee's Soy Protein for over 14 years.  If you consider that my mom had many female issues and the females on my dad's side of the family and female problems, I should have them as well.  I don't.  I've eased into the next wonderful phase of woman hood, I don't have hot flashes, I sleep well at night and I feel great!

So if the Soy Protein I've been using for years was bad for me, should I feel this good?

5 Foods Linked to ADHD

Leader of Nutrition studies at the Institute, Associate Professor Wendy Oddy, explained that the researchers looked at the dietary patterns of 1800 adolescents from the Raine Study and classified diets into ‘Healthy’ or ‘Western’ patterns. The Raine Study is an ongoing health research project which has followed a large group of mothers and their offspring over the past 18 years

Researchers found a diet high in foods typical of the standard Western diet are associated with more than double the risk of having an ADHD diagnosis, compared with a diet low in the Western pattern–even after adjusting for other social and family influences.

“We looked at the dietary patterns amongst the adolescents and compared the diet information against whether or not the adolescent had received a diagnosis of ADHD by the age of 14 years. In our study, 115 adolescents had been diagnosed with ADHD, 91 boys and 24 girls.”

A ‘healthy pattern’ is a diet high in fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains and fish–it is generally higher in omega-3 fatty acids, folate and fibre. A ‘Western pattern’ is a diet generally higher in total fat, saturated fat, refined sugar and sodium.

When they looked at specific foods, having an ADHD diagnosis was associated with a diet high in these five food categories:

1. Fast foods
2. Processed meats
3. Red meat
4. High fat dairy products
5. Sweets

If you or anyone you know has been diagnosed with ADHD and they need high end natural supplements from a resource they can trust, I'm here.

5 Foods that fight Fatigue

If you ever feel lethargic or fatigued after you eat, you’re eating the wrong foods. It’s that simple. The trick is to choose foods that release energy more slowly and give you a gradual boost of long-lasting energy — and to stay away from high-glycemic foods that deliver an immediate, short-lived boost but leave you feeling sluggish and tired.
  1. Oatmeal.  Carbohydrates spend the least amount of time in the stomach, which means you get a quick boost of energy. But unlike processed, sugary cereals, whole oats don’t result in a sugar crash. The high dietary fiber content in oats helps you feel full longer, preventing overeating throughout the day, which can lead to weight gain, sluggishness, and fatigue. Fiber is also crucial to healthy digestion; the soluble fiber in oats feeds the beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract and prevents energy-draining constipation
  2. Yogurt also contains probiotics, beneficial bacteria that help maintain a healthy gut ecosystem by protecting against pathogens and helping your body eliminate harmful bacteria. Like fiber, probiotics are a powerful digestive aid. Recent research from the University of Toronto suggests that probiotics can help ease symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome; in the study, probiotic supplementation appeared to boost levels of the amino acid tryptophan in the brain. Tryptophan is famously known as the component in turkey that makes you sleepy, but it’s also a precursor of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that helps induce sleep and promote feelings of calm and tranquility, helping to combat both physical and emotional fatigue.
  3. Spinach.  Spinach is chock-full of nutrients that are essential for battling fatigue and helping our bodies perform at their peak. Not only is spinach one of the most iron-dense food sources on earth, it’s also extremely rich in magnesium and potassium and is an excellent source of energy-supporting B-vitamins.
  4. Nuts and seeds.  Nuts and seeds are nutrient-dense foods packed with high-quality protein and healthy omega-3 fats. Depending on the type you choose, you’ll also get decent amounts of manganese; magnesium; phosphorus; iron; copper; riboflavin; vitamins B1, B2, B5, and B6; and tryptophan — all of which are involved in the production of energy.
  5. Beans.  Beans have been called a miracle food, and with good reason. Along with the numerous other health benefits they provide, beans are on the front lines when it comes to fighting fatigue. Beans are a concentrated source of stable, slow-burning energy due to their unique nutritional composition: All types are low in fat, high in fiber, and provide a good balance of carbohydrates and protein. Take your pick of beans; they have a low glycemic rating (to help you avoid blood sugar spikes) and are loaded with a rich array of minerals including potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, and iron, all essential to producing energy. Additionally, super-performing beans — especially soybeans — are a good source of tryptophan.  NOTE:  Be very careful with soybeans.  Make sure they are organic and if other than the natural form, the products is non GMO.

Take 2 and feel better in the mornng.

You've heard the old saying from doctors, "Take two aspirin and call me in the morning"?

What if you could do something better?  How about take 2 Nutriferon and you won't need to call the doctor.  That is exactly what Jan did.  Here's her story.

Last week for the first time in at least a decade, I got sick with a nasty cold and congestive flu. I was shocked! And this was so awful it put me in bed! I think I caught it at my grandson's state basketball tournament. He was sick and playing with a 101 degree temperature! I thought I'd let you know what I did to get over it and maybe this will help others, too.

When NutriFeron came out several years ago, I took it to keep my immune system strong while teaching. That happened, but I was surprised when taking it also eliminated the seasonal allergies and sinus problems I'd suffered from for many years. Since then I've faithfully taken two a day and have never had any more problems with either of those conditions. Plus, I haven't had any colds, and that's been a blessing, but I did catch one last week.

So, as I was in bed, miserable and emptying a kleenex box, I thought that if a person can take two Tylenol every four hours when sick, then I could surely take two NutriFeron every four hours. That's what I did and by the next morning all of the symptoms were totally gone! I was really amazed and so happy that I could get up and get going again!
